Bedminster, NJ (April 2014) – Catladies: The Musical That Makes Lawyers Purr, written by emerging playwright/lawyer Sarah Dubinsky, will make you meow. The musical is part of the New York Festival of the Offensive and opens at the Producers' Club off Times Square on May 3rd and 4th at 4pm. Tickets and perks start at $20.00 at the door and on Kickstarter. Reviewers and theater representatives are invited to attend the show. This show is not innocent enough for children.
Premise: The dogs retrieved the Constitution from its perch and chewed it up like a rubber chipmunk, forcing the lawyers to turn catty as they attempt to save the feline only pet store/mecca of CatSmartCo before it is infiltrated by canines under the banner of affirmative action. But the NÜTER-ing (No Undermining of True Equal Rights) Movement may get snipped before it has begun. (80 minutes)
This musical is a low tech farce with flinging toy cats, spears made from broomsticks, helmets with ears on top, and lots of cat paraphernalia. If somebody finds enlightenment or experiences growth from viewing Catladies, the writer will salute him or her for finding more depth than intended. This musical contains offensive language and sexual innuendo. It requires a willingness to embrace the absurd.

About the Writer: Sarah Dubinsky loves her pussycats and any other furred creatures she can pet. Her songs, poems, and stories glitter like pyrite and have the depth of a puddle. Surprisingly, Sarah has been rejected by eleven of the very best Master of Fine Arts in Poetry programs in the English speaking world. Fortunately, she already had her law degree at the time she applied. Sarah once dreamed of being a lawyer. Having attained her goal, Sarah then dreamed of being a writer. Having now attained that goal, Sarah dreams of more cats than can possibly fit on the internet.
About the Director: Melanie Heit Rivellese always knew exactly what she wanted to do —write, sing, act and perform. She dictated her first play to her mother from the bathtub, at age 6. Though she excelled in the musical, writing, and performing arts, she was set on the twisted path of besuited careers and expectations. However, her magic shone through. Melanie eventually became a storytelling professional; founder of unique book-character-centric camps and workshops; writer, director and actress of skits; creator of live-interactive-historical-theatre tours and more. When under the influence of benadryl, she loves playing and cuddling with felines. She thanks Prince Paul, Princess Joelle, and Prince Carter Charming for being her forever after.
About the Producer: Jen DiOrio is the sole proprietor of Offsides NJ Productions (founded in 2008). A member of the Dramatists Guild, Jen writes and produces stage plays, screenplays, monologues, and other creations. In 2010, she self-produced Offsides, her stage play directed by New York-based Alberto Bonilla at the Watchung Arts Center in New Jersey, where she also produced a 10-minute play showcase featuring the scripts of her writing group. Kyle Schickner of FenceSitter Films will produce Jen's upcoming web series, based on her 30-minute triptych also featured at the showcase. Jen is thrilled to produce Sarah Dubinsky's Catladies: The Musical That Makes Lawyers Purr at the New York Festival of the Offensive. Catladies was inspired by the 10-minute play showcase as well. Prior to her current career in teaching (ESL at schools in NYC and British Literature and Creative Writing in NJ), Jen worked in publicity at Houghton Mifflin Company, author events at St. Martin’s Press, and the Office of External Affairs at Columbia University, all in New York City. Lastly, for 11 years, Jen has also been the loving mother of Bennie, a cat who enjoys behaving like a dog.
